This past weekend came and went, and as I predicted last Friday, I am getting old and boring. It also didn’t help that almost every single close friend I have was out of town this past weekend also.
So, my wife left town for the weekend, and if I could have written a perfect weekend, it would have included doing something more than cleaning the house and garage and chillin with my cats. The highlight of it certainly wouldn’t have been picking up hotwings for dinner from a new restaurant that opened up down the street and then falling asleep on the couch not long thereafter. It might have included some sort of adult interaction beyond the smile and wave from an incredibly obese friend of a neighbor while I was sweating profusely in the garage cutting down boxes for recylcing.
While in the midst of realizing how boring my weekend was going to be, I managed to drag my ass out off the couch (my weekend bed) at 9am on Saturday morning to watch my god son’s T-ball game. It was then that I realized that once my wife and I start having children, then boredom will be non-existent and that I should probably enjoy it while I can. I commented to my friends that tee ball at 9am on a Saturday morning is a bit early…to which they replied something about 9am being late on a Saturday morning since the children usually are up and going crazy around 6am. I can’t wait.

That is pretty much how I feel today. Many of my customers have hit the road this week to enjoy some time off, so it’s time for some internal housecleaning. But, I just don’t feel like doing much. My wife unveiled the “to do” list before we leave on Friday. I have mixed feelings about this “to do” list and I am thankful that I don’t have softball tomorrow night or Pool on Thursday so that I can help. On one hand I don’t understand the need to do everything that we wouldn’t do anyway before we leave. Last night we not only cleaned out the fridge, but we scoured walls, washed shelves, and scrubbed every square inch of the refridgerator. Why? What does that have to do with Florida? I don’t get it.
The reason I am on the fence about all of this “to do” list is because when I opened the fridge this morning, I had a moment of zen since it looked like it was new. From what I understand, it’s that feeling of Zen that my wife wants to return home to after we are gone. As with every vacation, while we are away we forget that our home is spotless, and upon returning from a usually exhausting vacation, there is relief in knowing that we don’t have much to do when we get back home.
…but still I am unmotivated…
I am working on something new for my balloon business that I hope to unveil after vacation. In the past month, I have done two seperate jobs with face painters and on both occasions I have wondered why I haven’t gotten into face painting. It pays just as well, and it’s a lot less hard on the body as twisting balloons. (believe it or not, there are several body hazards from twisting balloons such as carpal tunnel or tendonitis.) I am an extremely artsy guy and maybe face painting could be my niche. Now I just need to invest in some hardware, and practice. This might be something I throw in for virtually no extra cost to all of my balloon parties later this summer since in order to practice, you need children willing to sit down and let you paint.
This could be an exciting and new offering that could boost business to an entirely new level.
